How to Succeed with this ONE Key Secret by Pat Ryan

Why is it that some people are more successful than others?   Is it luck?   Is it who they know?   Is it what they know?

The truth is that success has a formula – and successful people follow it – some consciously, others unconsciously. While this formula may come naturally to some, it does not come naturally to most.  Instead, most successful people have had to search for the answers to what makes people successful in the first place…  Then they had to learn it, study it, internalize it, and most importantly, apply it.

Sounds simple, doesn’t it?  But with so many different “experts” on success, how do you know whose success formula to listen to?  The answer really is simple:  Why not go to the “expert” that the experts learned from?

Before most of today’s leading success authorities were even born, there was ONE man and one twenty-year study – conducted from 1919 to 1939 – revealing what the world’s most successful people had in common.

Famed author Napoleon Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich after spending 20 years at the side of industrialist and rags-to-riches philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie.  At the time, Carnegie was one of the most powerful men in the world.  He believed the process of success could be outlined in a simple formula anyone could learn and implement.

Hill’s life changed forever when he was asked by Carnegie to interview, analyze and document the habits and experiences of hundreds of the most successful people in the world.  During this time, Hill was introduced to people like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Alexander Graham Bell, John D. Rockefeller and many, many more. (By the way, Andrew Carnegie spent the first half of his life becoming one of the richest men in the world, and the second half of his life, giving it ALL away!)

When I first heard about Think & Grow Rich many years ago, I was still an employee of General Electric – and I couldn’t understand why none of my GE colleagues had ever even heard of the tremendous book that resulted from this 20-year study.  Even so, I had to have it.  So I bought it, read it, and studied it over the next 30 days – and ultimately wrote a 50-page synopsis of the book.  (This forced me to internalize the principles!)

The Result?  My life has never been the same.

You see, Hill created a formula for success that anyone can follow.  (I have used these same principles to build Mentor Tech Group into the #1 high-quality marketing database resource in the Corporate Training & HR sector!)  The one key overarching principle to Hill’s “success formula” is so simple that anyone can use it. Yet, it is so powerful, that once you truly understand and begin to apply it to your life, great things can happen.

Here is the key:

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.

This is to say, whatever you strongly focus mind your mind upon will be MADE REAL.

This is NOT only about thinking, it’s about believing.

If you don’t believe you can achieve something, your negative thoughts will make sure you don’t achieve it.  In fact, due to a fear of failure, most people won’t even try something new if they don’t think they will be successful.

So, how can you change this thinking?  Consider and internalize the following foundational point upon which Hill’s success principles are founded.

Premise:  Thoughts are Things

Okay, you might think we’re off to a slow start here… “Thoughts are Things” – Well, how can that be?  And yet, once you begin to internalize this concept, turn it over and over in your mind and gain a deep understanding of it, you will realize what Hill is trying to express.

Your thoughts absolutely can and DO influence your actions and the resulting outcomes in your life.  It has been proven out time and again…

Hill presented it this way:

  • An intangible impulse of thought can be transmuted into material rewards by the application of known principles.
  • Our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds, and, by means with which no one is familiar, these “magnets” attract us to the forces, the people, and the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.
  • Riches begin with a state of mind – with definiteness of purpose -with little or no hard work.
  • You must have a definite major purpose in life.  You must stand by that purpose until it has become an all-consuming obsession.  Ask yourself, “What do I ultimately want in this life?”
  • Success comes to those who are success-conscious.  (Inversely, failure comes to those who indifferently allow themselves to become “failure conscious.”)

“Opportunity has a sly habit of slipping in by the back door. Often it comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat.”

These are powerful prosperity lessons that can change your destiny in life.  Success-minded people maintain one core focus on belief in their own success. Despite obstacles, setbacks, failures, and the storms of life, successful people maintain a keen desire to be successful.  Do you have that kind of burning desire for success?

Hill said that 98% of people have few or no firm beliefs, which alone “puts true success firmly out of their reach”.  Think about that.  Are you one of the 98% with success out of reach, or do you have what it takes to be in the success-minded 2%?

By learning and applying Hill’s principles, you can be one of the 2%.

“When riches begin to come, they come so quickly, in such great abundance, that one wonders where they have been hiding in all those lean years.”

You can change your life and your path to success!

Be keenly aware of what you spend your time thinking about each day.  Whatever your mind “feeds upon”, your mind will draw to you.

  • Do you visualize your success?
  • Do you have a definite purpose in life?
  • Do you even know what you want out of life?

Think about your responses, write them down, and keep them in plain sight to feed your mind.

Remember, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can truly achieve.”
