7 Steps to Increase Success in Work & Life – by Pat Ryan

Dreams can be the launching pad to take you places you may not have otherwise ventured in life.  But, how do we move from “wishful thinking” to making our dreams become reality?

After being commissioned to study and interview over 100 American millionaires, Napoleon Hill became convinced there is a formula for success.  As a result of his work, Hill identified 13 key principles of success which can still be used today.

Hill determined that once you have identified a burning desire in life – aka – “your ultimate purpose in life”, you must develop the Applied Faith that will take you there.  Hill said Applied Faith is THE master key to success, the “head chemist” of the mind.

So what is applied faith?  How do you attain it, practice it, live by it?

Applied Faith is state of mind, a state of being, that can be translated into real, tangible success.  FAITH is defined as “Complete trust or confidence in something; a strong, enduring belief”.  Not often discussed in the context of corporate America today, faith is one of the most important Success Principles you can learn and apply to your career and your life.

Whether marketing to corporate training & HR, trying to get a promotion, or make a larger positive impact on your community and the world at large, this second success principle can help you yield the “riches” you desire.  Applied faith means focusing your mind and believing in what you WANT, not on what you don’t want.  You already have great capacity for faith – limited ONLY by your belief.

You must focus on developing a mental attitude whereby you clear your mind of all fears and doubts and focus on what you wish to attain in life.  You already possess the capacity for this, but you must cultivate and maintain applied faith to take full possession of the six forms of riches Hill identified:

  1. Good health
  2. Peace of mind
  3. A labor of love of your choice
  4. Freedom from fear and worry
  5. Positive mental attitude
  6. Material riches of your own choice and quantity

According to Hill, there are two ways to apply faith in your life: toward success or toward failure.

  • Focusing on life’s bounty and riches leads to success
  • Focusing on life’s shortfalls or worries leads to failure.

Sounds simple enough!  So what’s the catch? You must be consciously aware of your thoughts, where you focus your mind, what you draw into your life.  You must focus on the “riches” you want in life. Use and direct your thoughts consciously to attract what you WANT, what you DESIRE.

Remain steadfast, become resilient, and develop self-confidence to achieve lasting success.

Did you know that THE main difference between a successful person and a failure can be determine by one key trait: the capacity for belief.  Thomas Edison believed he could create the light bulb and although he failed over 10,000 times, he was ultimately successful because he BELIEVED he would achieve his goal.  Henry Ford believed he could build a self-propelled vehicle and despite all odds, naysayers and with little money or education, he eventually succeeded.

Ask yourself this: How many times can I fail before I quit?

The 7 Steps to Develop Applied Faith:

There are methods to develop a steadfast belief or faith in your life’s goals.  Hill outlined the following seven steps to develop applied faith in your life:

  1. Know what you want. Believe that you can get it. Write it down.
  2. Give expressions of gratitude for what you have and what you are about to receive
  3. Be grateful for what you are about to receive.
  4. Keep your mind open to hunches from within. Pay attention and act. (Remember, “applied” faith means you must ACT. Don’t wait.)
  5. You may be tested and face defeat many times before you are rewarded with success – don’t give up.
  6. Focus on your burning desire. Be definite in your purpose. Believe in it and ACT.
  7. When doubt creeps in, you must remember: “What a man believeth, he also reaps.”  What you believe WILL happen, so remain positive in all you do.

Through his research, Napoleon Hill also outlined the following lessons to successfully develop applied faith:

  • Repeated affirmation of orders to your subconscious mind is the only known method of voluntary development of the emotion of faith.
  • Any thought which has been given feeling and mixed with faith begins to immediately translate into its physical equivalent or counterpart. (You may recall the book or movie, The Secret, which is based on this premise.)
  • Thoughts which are mixed with feelings or emotions constitute a “magnetic” force which attracts other similar or related thoughts. So, remain positive and focus on your desires to attract similar thoughts.
  • Any idea, plan or purpose may be placed in the mind through repetition of thought.
  • Faith is a state of mind which may be induced, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind. The mind cannot distinguish between truth and fiction, so it believes whatever you tell it repeatedly, over and over again – the basis of autosuggestion (which we will cover in next month’s article).
  • “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
  • “No one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it.”

Over the upcoming weeks, practice these steps to develop Applied Faith, and next month we will walk you through the power of autosuggestion…another step toward creating the success-filled life you want!  In the meantime, do you want MORE success marketing to Corporate Training & HR?
